If you’re considering putting a spring in your step by going on holiday in the coming months, you’ll no doubt be overwhelmed by the sheer choice of European locations. The blossoming trees and blooming flowers make for some truly beautiful sights, but if you’re after some hot weather and sunshine, look no further than our list of top spring destinations. We’ve done the research for you and recommended four of the best spring sun holiday destinations in Europe.

Cyprus

The first place we’d suggest is Cyprus. With 340 days of sunshine per year and a summer that lasts for 8 months, the island of Cyprus has a subtropical climate and is situated to the south of Turkey and east of Greece. It is the mythical birthplace of the famous Greek God Aphrodite, god of love and beauty, and as such has been nicknamed the isle of love (Marc Anthony gave the island to his love Cleopatra as a gift).

In addition to being steeped in such heritage as well as heavenly weather, this island enjoys Greek and Turkish cultural influence, ski resorts in the mountains, beautiful beaches and fantastic hotels.

Gran Canaria

Next we visit the Spanish archipelago of Gran Canaria which is approximately 150km north of Africa. It is celebrated for offering something for everyone. For a relaxing holiday, the island has lazy fishing villages and for fun-packed family breaks it has water parks and beaches galore.

Playa del Ingles and Las Palmas are the largest resorts, boasting a plethora of restaurants, bars and shores to provide hours of entertainment and indulgence. Most tourists try to visit the church of Iglesia de San Juan Bautista de Arucas, the Roque Nublo viewing point and the Palmalitos Park zoo.

Lanzarote

As well as the obligatory beaches and bars, Lanzarote boasts some unique activities and things to see. This UNESCO World Biosphere reserve features Timanfaya National Park where you can ride camels on volcanoes and Jameos del Agua where you can dine at a restaurant located in a volcanic cave. If you like trying new things or have teenage children looking for exciting events, this is the island for your spring vacation.

Madeira

Only 5 hours flight away, this idyllic island is our final choice for some spring sunshine. Situated about 400km north of the Canary Islands and with its roots tied to Portugal since 1419, you will be warmly received not only with good weather, but also with sumptuous food, renowned wine, an interesting history, terrific hills for walking, large golf courses, spectacular vegetation and lovely beaches for relaxing or a range of water sports. We’re sure there is something in that list that must take your fancy!

All in all, we believe that for the best chance of sunshine in spring, you should head to the Canary Islands. Why not take a look at hotels in Gran Canaria to whet your appetite? Be warned, you’ll find it difficult to resist!
