According to a report in the Daily Telegraph there are a few scientists who believe that global warming is set to ‘pause’ over the two or three decades. This will be a result, according to them, of the cyclical changes that occur in ocean currents.
Professor Mojib Latif of Germany’s Kiel University Leibniz Institute believes these ocean current cycles will temporarily halt global warming. Prof Latif is also an author for the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
He actually claims that up to 50% of the previous three decades of global warming could be due to these cycles and that the current cooling phase will just offset the man-made global warming for a while. That means the UK should be much colder now than it is doesn’t it?
But on the way he says winters and summers will become cooler and that the recent phenomena of retreating sea ice and glaciers may well reverse for a while.
But this is a controversial view and not widely accepted.
There you have it. If it gets warm we’re all doomed, if it gets cold we’re all doomed and if it stays the same guess what ….. we’re all doomed.
The climate changers have now sewn up all options for the future with increased tax and control over our lives as the only way out whatever happens.
I can still find no-one explaining how climate change will continue to occur once we’ve used up all the fossil fuels. Nor have I seen a study into what would happen to wildlife, pollen transfer, coastal erosion, etc if we extracted huge amount of energy out of the world’s wind and current movements. I bet the answer would be “good point, we’d better slap a tax on it just in case”.
In my view it’s a good job we have had some global warming. Otherwise look at the weather we should have had in the UK over the last few days. We should all have been feet deep in snow with the elderly and infirm unable to survive, businesses going to the wall, massive fuel bills just to stay alive, nothing to eat in the shops, burst water mains and panic everywhere.

I find it hard to believe that Professor Mojib Latif or any other climate scientist would actually say openly the ocean currents control the earth’s climate. They have been saying for years that CO2 controls the climate, and that this is so established that the science is settled and they have reached a concensus. Now they’re saying that the climate is controlled by ocean currents? Are these people out of their minds? They claimed that the sun does not control the climate and CO2 was the only thing that explained the climactic changes they were observing. Now it’s ocean currents?
We were about to spend trillions of dollars controlling the world’s carbon consumption, and two weeks after that Copenhagen conference, suddenly it’s been ocean currents all along?! I can’t believe this!! This is an outrage!

These people do not want to ’save the world’ they want your money and what easier way than via tax. Don’t believe me? Then look around at who has the big houses, cars, planes and yachts. If they believed their own spoutings they would not have these things would they Mr Gore!

Please understand the distiction between “Global Warming” & “Climate Change” namely “climate change is a result of global warming.”
Unfortunately politicians & the media seized on the term ‘global warming’ & applied it to all aspects of what should be called ‘climate change’.
The UK sits on a latitude of approx. 52″N if you look at an atlas you will see that this is the roughly same latitude as the Hudson Bay in Canada, Moscow & Siberia. Why don’t WE have weather as cold as those places? A. Because of the Gulf Stream – a warm current from the Caribbean that increases the temperature of UK waters by a couple of degrees and this warmer water temperature is what gives the UK (for its latitude) such a mild climate.
One aspect of the Gulf Stream is it is not permanent and that if certain climatic changes occur (and they have done in the past) the Gulf Stream could ’switch off’ & the UK would be subject to the weather paterns of our latitude (Siberia, Hudson Bay, NW Canada, Norway etc). The theory goes that at the moment warm, salt water from the Caribbean crosses the Altanltic in NE direction, warms the UK & is disipated ABOVE the cold freshwater travelling as a flow from the Arctic. If the rate of global warming causes melt of Arctic ice then this relationship would go out of balance and the Gulf Stream would not exist as a comparatively narrow ‘current’ (or flow)but a ’spread’ and UK waters would not receive as much of the energy as previously.
Leo – if the Gulf Stream is not permanent, and “climactic changes occur (and they have done in the past)” who the hell are we to interfere with that? If what you say is true, then It is certainly NOT a result of man made C02 increases as it has – as you say – “has done in the past”.
