The death of the Political Promise

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Once upon a time politicians used to go round making ‘political promises’ of what they were going to do with our hard earned money that they had snaffled before we got to see it through some scam called Pay As You Earn (PAYE).

The Swiss ban minarets on Mosques

There are plans to introduce a database to hold the details of violent men. This is a recommendation made by the Association of Chief Police Officers after a review ordered by Jacqui Smith when she was Home Secretary.  Under the recommendations, the 25,000 or so serial domestic violence offenders will have to register with the police for inclusion on the database. In the same way the Sex Offenders Register works, non-registration would be an offence. Women would then be given the “right to know” if they were safe from potentially violent men. …read more

Big Bother update: The Intercept Modernisation Programme is reborn

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

The Intercept Modernisation Programme has reared its ugly head again. Earlier in the year the plan was apparently scrapped after it was proved that this huge database project flew in the face of EU legislation. All Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and telecoms companies will be required, by law, to store contact details of every phone call, text, E-Mail, and web-site we all visit. …read more
