The sharper eyed amongst you will have noticed that there was no inflation watch last week. I have decided to extend this out to two weeks this time and then monthly. The figures were jumping about a bit quite a lot and I was more interested in establishing trends.
Compared to the baseline figure set on the 4th Jan 2010, this week has seen a drop in the overall cost and the weighted cost of the basket.
Reports on the BBC this morning said that inflation had risen, but I believe they were comparing last year’s prices with this year’s when VAT would have had an effect.
Fuel, although up on the year, was down on last week.
Two points to note, there were no Maris Peer potatoes available so I had to use the price for Maris Piper, which are normally about 10p less per bag. I also had to replace the Tanglefoot beer for the future with the slightly cheaper McEwans. Last week I was forced to use a much more expensive brand as it was the only one available that came close to Tanglefoot.
