What appears to be a strange Nessie type creature has been caught on camera near Bowness-on-Windermere potentially confirming the validity of previous sightings of what has been dubbed Bownessie or the Beast of Bowness.
Tom Pickles and Sarah Harrington both witnessed the creature when they were kayaking on Lake Windermere, which is England's largest lake making this the eighth sighting of the creature over the past five years.
The colleagues were both frightened by what they saw during their encounter with the beast, which occurred on a team building trip to the Lake District.
Pickles said "It was petrifying and we paddled back to the shore straight away,"
"At first I thought it was a dog and then saw it was much bigger and moving really quickly at about 10 mph. Each hump was moving in a rippling motion and it was swimming fast."
'I could tell it was much bigger underneath from the huge shadow around it.
'Its skin was like a seal's but its shape was completely abnormal – it's not like any animal I've ever seen before.'
Sarah Harrington said 'It was like an enormous snake. All I could think about was to get off the lake.'
Spooky stuff eh?
I would put my sceptics hat on for this one except there is one problem.
I have also seen something strange in the lake.
I met my wife in 2006 in Bowness and I have very fond memories of the area and it is definitely one of the most romantic places to meet the love of your life.
One day I was walking by the lake and something strange caught my eye, from the distance it was not unlike the well known "Surgeon's Photograph" of the Loch Ness monster photo that was taken in 1934Â and before I could reach for my camera….it was gone but it did reveal what appeared to be humps on it's back as it disappeared beneath the murky waters.
In the word of Adrian Mole 'Just my luck'….that photo could have made me a lot of money (not as much as photo of Jordan without her make-up on though….sad world wouldn't you say?).
Over the years I have rationalised this sighting and put it down to a trick of the light and an wishful thinking that there may be some mysteries unsolved here on mainland Britain which defy what we know to be real in this rationalistic reductionist world.
But I did see something on that lake, granted it was not close up but when I saw the photograph taken by Tom Pickles and Sarah Harrington it looked very much like what I myself saw 5 years ago and it seems we are not the only ones to have made this sighting.
Even if the photograph turns out to be a hoax…I know what I saw.
The picture shows an overcast day with a light fog around the lake. The small islands are slightly obscured by the fog but the "subject" seems to be unaffected by the fog. The “subject’s†extremely dark color should have been dispersed by the fog, giving it a slightly lighter color. I think the original photograph showed a small boat crossing the lake creating the wake, then the photo was altered to include the "subject" blocking out the boat.

At least it seemed to obey the speed limits.
This looks very similar to the "Nessie" picture taken by Lachlan Stuart in the 60's…turned out to be bales of hay covered by tarpaulin…does look interesting and certainly if it turned out that there was something in the lake, it improves Loch Ness's chances of being correct after all these years…if the words of the witnessess are to be believed it obviously concerned them enough to get off th water and sharpish !
@955Roman haha everything that that f*** is which will?!
