1970's heart-throb David Essex is to join the cast of Eastenders playing Alfie Moon's uncle, Eddie Moon.
David who is a Londoner himself is said to be thrilled at the prospect of joining Eastenders and said "Being an East Ender myself I’m really excited to be joining Albert Square".
"Eddie Moon is a great character and I can't wait to get to grips with the role and work and such a fantastic cast."
The show's controversial producer Bryan Kirkwood said "David Essex is a brilliant signing for EastEnders".
"He is a unique talent with a legion of fans, and he will bring warmth and charisma to the role of Eddie Moon. His arrival, alongside the return of son Michael, brings a new generation of the Moon family to Walford."
63 year old David Essex, real name David Albert Cook, shot to fame on the 1970s staring in films Stardust and That'll Be The Day as well as a highly successful music career with hit singles such as A Winter's Tale and Silver Dream Machine (a favourite of mine as a young kid and still a guilty pleasure) from the 1980 film Silver Dream Racer.
Many Eastenders fans are hoping David's addition to the show will help undo the current turmoil surrounding the appallingly distasteful handling of the cot death story line which is still running.
