What a great present for any budding rock star, a guitar once owned by "Slowhand" himself!
It turns out that Eric Clapton is to auction off over 150 lots from his own collection including amps and speakers and even one guitar that he used on stage for the 2005 Cream reunion shows, which could realise £13,000.
And why? In order to raise funds for the rehab clinic he founded in 1998, the Crossroads Centre in Antigua.
This auction to be held in Bonhams in New York on the 9th February follows on from two previous events in 1999 and 2004. The auction will also include instruments donated by Joe Bonamassa, JJ Cale and Jeff Beck.
Lots are due to go on display at Bonhams at 101 New Bond Street in London between January the 23rd and 26th.
So all you 'air guitarists' out there, get yourself out to the Big Apple (or maybe a 'phone bid) and bag yourself a bit of rock history. Or it could be that perfect late Christmas gift for the inner star guitarist that lies within someone you know.
"Crossroads Centre is a non-profit, International Centre of Excellence for the treatment of alcohol and other drug addictions." It offers a twelve step approach to addiction treatment that combines body, mind and spirit complemented by a beautiful serene atmosphere.
