It’s easy to see why holidaymakers in their thousands flock to the shores of Turkey year after year to enjoy some Turkish delights. The abundance of resorts scattered along its coastline appeal to British holidaymakers for various reasons, each bringing something different to the table. Some resorts, however, offer the best of both worlds – superb beaches, cultural delights and lively nightlife being just three of the reasons why they are multi-faceted. Bodrum is one of these resorts, and with cheap flights to Bodrum, you can see for yourself in no time.

While the beach and lively atmosphere of Bodrum is enough of a reason to visit for most, there are various other snippets that the resort has in store to ensure that, no matter what you’re hoping to find, Bodrum will have the answer.

Bodrum Castle (PD)

Bodrum Castle

Bodrum Castle

Situated in the heart of the resort, overlooking the glitzy marina, Bodrum Castle is a sentiment to the medieval history that encompasses this area of Turkey. While wandering its walls, turrets and dungeons will give you the chance to enjoy the history that the castle oozes, the Museum of underwater Archaeology that is housed within it is well worth stopping by, too.

Kara Ada

This tiny island, home to therapeutic and healing springs, can be found in the bay overlooking Bodrum and is easily accessible via boat trip. As one of the more popular boat trips from Bodrum, don’t expect it to be a quiet and isolated trip, but don’t let this affect your decision to head to the island, either.

Ancient Ruins

Turkey is renowned as the home of a wealth of ancient ruins and historical sites, with plenty being within easy access of Bodrum for you to explore. The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus and the Temple of Artemis can both be found within the list of Ancient Wonders of the World, and are both within daytripping distance if you’d like to delve deeper into the country’s history.

Bodrum may be a popular resort because of its beach opportunities, but there are plenty of other reasons to visit this superb area of Turkey this year that shouldn’t be overlooked.
