As Donald Trump prepares to be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States of America, the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) has published a list of the investment companies with the highest exposure to the USA.
With the USA being the world’s largest economy, it is perhaps no surprise that 13% of the investment company sector by number have at least 20% of assets there. Looking across the sector a fifth of companies by number (21%) invest at least 5% of assets in the USA.
Not surprisingly, the companies with the highest weightings are either in the North America sectors or the Sector Specialist: Tech Media Telecomm and Sector Specialist: Biotechnology & Healthcare sectors, reflecting the USA’s pre-eminence in these areas. But there are also a number of investment companies in the Global sectors with punchy USA weightings, as well as a number of other sectors with high US exposure. In the Global sectors, Martin Currie Global Portfolio (Global) currently has the highest exposure to the USA (61%), followed by Securities Trust of Scotland (51%, Global Equity Income), Mid Wynd International (49%, Global) and Alliance Trust (47%, Global), Monks (47%, Global), Edinburgh Worldwide (46%, Global) and Scottish Mortgage (46%, Global).
