Jonathan Ross set his sights on X Factor Judges Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole with a joke that may have upset someone somewhere.

Speaking at the British Comedy awards which he was hosting, Jonathan Ross apparently made reference to parts of Cheryl Cole's nightclub toilet attendant attack on Sophie Amogbokpa, her marriage to Ashley Cole and X Factor contestant Gamu Nhengu's deportation scandal.

"You know who I felt sorry for? That Zimbabwean girl, What’s going on with Cheryl Cole’s complex relationship with the black community, eh? It’s like she’s playing the world’s longest game of slap, marry, deport".

Then Jonathan went on to poke fun at Simon Cowell saying "Simon Cowell’s just celebrated a landmark birthday, 50 not out. Or is that a rumour?"

Defending his comments Jonathan Ross said "Those I thought might be contentious I ran past the people involved to get the thumbs up.  As for the jokes about Cheryl and Simon, I was talking about Cheryl’s past and it was an observation, and Simon’s was a well-meaning one and I know him well enough to know that he won’t have a problem with it"

So why is everyone getting upset? at least he didn't make reference to the fact that Cheryl Cole can't sing very well and Simon Cowell is playing a huge role in the destruction of our culture by making Karaoke singers into stars.
