Shadow Foundr, the private investor network and crowdfunding platform that encourages the crowd to follow the lead of experienced investors into early-stage companies, has appointed Paul Jenkinson to its Advisory Board.

Based in the Midlands, Paul has vast commercial experience not only with his own businesses, but also as a mentor to many other start-ups in the region.

Paul's extensive experience in the start-up and fundraising arena included five years as Regional Manager for Connect Midlands, where his team helped start-ups and SMEs in the region raise £100m of funding; and four years with Beer & Partners, where he became Regional Director.

Paul's appointment follows the recent announcement of former Capital Radio Group and Carphone Warehouse Director, David Mansfield, as Chairman of Shadow Foundr's Advisory Board.

Chief Operations Officer at Shadow Foundr, Jason Kluver, said Paul's appointment was an important part of Shadow Foundr's growth strategy in the UK.

Paul Jenkinson shadow foundr"London and the South have always claimed the lion's share of attention in the start-up funding world, but there are massive opportunities in the Midlands and the North," he said.

"The British Business Bank's £650m commitment to start-ups and small businesses in these regions highlights that potential, which is something we recognised in 2015 when we opened up our Loughborough office."

"Paul is an outstanding addition to our team and another vital cog in our overall growth strategy. His vast experience has seen him build a very large and loyal following in the Midlands, where his reputation is second-to-none."

"We feel extremely honoured to have him on board and we are very much looking forward to his guidance and support in the region, over the coming years."

Paul himself said he was looking forward to this fresh challenge, confident that Shadow Foundr could play a key role in funding many start-ups and SMEs in the Midlands and North.

"I am delighted to be joining the Advisory Board of Shadow Foundr. I believe their approach of combining a knowledgeable group of angel investors, who can help select and invest in the best entrepreneurs and high growth businesses, before seeking further investment from the crowd is a winning formula," he said.

"I'm also personally looking forward to helping them become well known in the Midlands and further North."

Paul has an MBA from Manchester Business School and studied Civil Engineering and Economics.

He spent twenty years in industry with Blue Circle, BPB Industries, British Gypsum, and Anglian Water (building products and utilities) in a variety of strategic planning and line management roles.

Paul has already commenced working with the Shadow Foundr team and will be attending next week's Venturefest in Derby as well as the UKBAA's Northern Investment Summit in Manchester, the following week.
