A new video (below) includes audio of Eric Pickles behind closed doors at Conservative Conference asking a crowd of young Tory activists whether they are all "unapologetic, unreformed Thatcherites" – and they respond to him with huge, ecstatic cheers.
Michael Dugher MP, Labour's Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office, said:
"David Cameron promised change but has failed to deliver. The Tories are determined to stand up for a privileged few, and now we know that the nasty party is back in business.
"You know Tory modernisation is dead when all they talk about is Europe, Thatcher and tax cuts for those at the top. David Cameron's strategy doesn't extend beyond Nigel Farage's polling numbers.
"The Tories are going backwards and they're taking the country with them. Behind closed doors, young Tories cheer a time when so many communities were destroyed under Margaret Thatcher. Labour is determined to campaign to prevent the Tories repeating the damage caused in the 1980s."
