This a series of three very sobering videos from the Max Keiser site. Max Kieser is the architect of the now internet viral 'Crash JP Morgan, Buy Silver' campaign.
Max features details from a film made by Dutch director Bregtje Van Der Haak. The film in question is 'California Dreaming'.
This film of Arnold Schwarzenegger's state paints a picture of American people who are just accepting their lot in life. People in that state that was once the dream state appear to be turning away from the state and the banks towards self sufficiency. "California is a strong brand, the state of new beginnings, dreams and movie stars, of surfers and a wonderful climate. But the Golden State is bankrupt and the city of Los Angeles is running out of cash. Public services are being cut and unemployment keeps rising. At the same time, optimism, entrepreneurship and the belief in the power of America are stronger than ever."
Max puts this down to a sort of weakness but Bregtje saw a sort of bravery in it that is no longer evident in Europe.
But when you see film footage of a California fire-fighter trawling the streets looking for a few dimes to help his organisation to continue to function you get the idea that the 'dream' is now turning into a bit of a nightmare. A far cry from the Arnie ads that used to adorn our evening's viewings.
Now they need to balance their books or, like many US states, start sinking into bankruptcy.
Bregtje made the film after hearing that Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel was openly saying she was worried about paying the city's bills.
