Magician Paul Daniels has been accused of homophobia after telling judge Craig Revel Horwood not to give up his day job tasting sausages on the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.
Disgruntled viewers have contacted the BBC website to let Paul Daniels what they think of him and also twittered their objection to Paul Daniels joke expressing their annoyance over him using such terminology which they believed was homophobic in nature.
Craig Revel Horwood who is openly gay is believed not to be angry at Daniels for the Quip because Daniels was referring to Craig's promotion of British sausage week which Daniels himself has also been a front man for.
But it seems that many viewers believe that this was a double entendre used to make a homophobic attack.
How thick and vindictive are these people? Political correctness gone mad with spiteful overtones.
I had the honour of meeting Paul backstage at a gig I was playing at in Newport and as soon as I saw him I just wanted to shake his hand out of respect for the great little man.
I was wearing a bright orange beanie hat and he took one look at me and said that I did a great impression of a Swan Match.
It was a simple quick joke but it had me in stitches because of his delivery (which does not translate well in my recounting of the moment) and was a friendly ice breaker and made you warm to the man instantly.
We had a brief chat and bid each other farewell but I got a brief measure of the man and the accusations levied against him do not seem possible to me because the gentleman I met bore no relation to a man capable of such malicious comment as is being portrayed by some sections of the press and the mindless idiots twittering away at his reputation.
I was over the moon that such a legend had made a joke in good spirits directed towards me and that sort of light hearted humour is at the core of Paul Daniels, so I have to ask the question why is there this slur being cultivated against Paul Daniels who is known for his one liners and being family orientated in his humour?
It is more than obvious that the reference by Paul was towards Sausage week and Craig Revel Horwood's involvement in it and even if there was a slight hint of the joke being of a homophobic nature it certainly is not a malicious one because that is not in Paul Daniels.
Some people really need to get a life.
There are so many uncouth foul mouthed non-celebrities in the eyes of the press can do no wrong yet a gentle old man who has been providing clean family entertainment for many years makes an innocent joke gets his reputation damaged.
Another sad day for the Britain and the over-sensitive politically correct thickies who populate a good chunk of this island.
By the way I actually think that if the joke did have 'gay reference' it would have in my mind been quite hysterically funny….but that does not mean the joke would have been homophobic.
