Ricky Gervais's compering of the Golden Globe film awards has caused outrage because of the caustic style of hosting he used to make defamatory remarks about Tinseltown's finest.
Many of those present have said they would never work with Gervais again and felt he had gone too far with his remarks which may have cost the British comedian his career state side.
From the outset Gervais said "It's going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking, or as Charlie Sheen calls it, breakfast." which set the tone for the rest of the evening.
Of a certain Mr Depp and Miss Jolie and their film The Tourist he said.
"It was a big year for 3D movies. Toy Story, Despicable Me, Tron. It seems like everything this year was three dimensional, except the characters in The Tourist. I already feel bad about that joke. I'm jumping on the bandwagon, because I haven't even seen The Tourist. Who has?
"I'd like to quash the rumours that the only reason The Tourist was nominated was so that the Hollywood Foreign Press can hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That is rubbish, that is not the only reason, they also accepted bribes."
Then there was the gay Scientologist jibe.
"I Love You Phillip Morris stars Jim Carey and Ewan McGregor, two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay. So the complete opposite of some famous scientologists. Probably. My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke."
Or maybe the Sex and The City attack.
"I was sure the Golden Globe for special effects would go to the team that airbrushed the Sex and the City 2 poster. Girls we know how old you are. I saw one of you in an episode of Bonanza."
It gets better, Robert Downey Jnr had this warm welcome.
"Many of you in this room probably know him best from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail."
Robert responded with his own riposte.
Robert said "Aside from the fact that it's been hugely mean-spirited, with mildly sinister undertones, I'd say the vibe of the show is pretty good so far, wouldn't you?"
Ooowww bitchiness and cat fights but at the end of the day Ricky (who I am not a fan of because I don't find him funny) was giving these spoilt Hollywood brats a bit of what they deserve.
They can spit their dummies out and hide in rehab and get away with many things that the average Joe on the street never could and all because they are famous and protected by an entourage of wealthy individuals who are more than willing to clear up the mess their vested interests make.
Tinsletown is more like a town of vampiric Roman emperors all standing in a circle pushing the knife into each other's backs then congratulating each other come the awards.
No Ricky wasn't funny at the awards but that might be because he does not resonate with my Spike Milligan sense of humour but he was so spot on when it came to the factual side of the satire.
He only said what many were thinking.
Well done Ricky….
