Awards are part of a new three-year support programme for social entrepreneurs

Santander and UnLtd are today joining forces to announce the launch of a new award aimed at supporting ambitious social ventures with future high-growth potential.

More than 200 Catalyst Awards, consisting of £5,000 cash and a 12-month development and growth support package, will be made over the next three years as part of the SEDA programme.

The SEDA Catalyst Awards are intended to support established ventures that have great potential to make real, positive social change but need targeted support to grow and move to the next stage of their development.

Cliff Prior, UnLtd’s chief executive, said:

We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Santander to offer these new Catalyst Awards. They will provide valuable support for social ventures that have both ambition and robust business and social impact models, but need help to get to the next level.

This new programme with Santander will provide us with an opportunity to build, expand and strengthen our pipeline of successful social entrepreneurs by funding work to support exceptional individuals and their social ventures which would benefit from further support from us.”

Steve Pateman, Head of UK Banking at Santander, said:

The Santander Social Enterprise Development Awards (SEDA) were set up to provide support to social ventures looking to grow and to recognise the valuable role they play in supporting communities. Our aim is to help people and businesses prosper, and we hope to award even more enterprises this year, helping these dynamic businesses increase their social impact."

Social entrepreneurs are now being invited to apply for a SEDA Catalyst Award. The deadline for submitting an application is Monday 16 June, 2014, at 5pm.

The application form is available on the SEDA Catalyst Award website at

In addition to the SEDA Catalyst Awards, Santander and UnLtd will also be offering SEDA Fast Growth Awards for established, highly ambitious social entrepreneurs who need help to grow their ventures to a national or international scale.

The SEDA Fast Growth Award will consist of a £20,000 grant and 12 months of intensive growth acceleration services. Ten Fast Growth Awards will be made each year.
