The busiest day in the year for holiday bookings, so-called 'Sunshine Saturday', occurred last weekend, highlighting the need for owners of overseas holiday lets to be ready to take bookings as early as possible in the year.
Tourist companies anticipate the Balearic and Canary Islands to be two of the most popular places for short to mid haul package holidays this year, however for private villa rentals away from the hotels, the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol on mainland Spain can expect to be winners.
"A stronger Pound should also encourage more Brits to holiday abroad this year," said Angelos Koutsoudes, head of the Overseas Guides Company, publishers of SpainBuyingGuide.com. "Spain achieved record numbers of tourists in 2014 and signs point to further growth in 2015. This is great news for the holiday rentals market in popular Spanish resorts, namely those with a good selection of privately owned homes that are within walking distance of a beach and good amenities, and have easy air access with key holiday markets, including the UK and northern Europe. But as they say, the early bird catches the worm, so owners hoping for maximum bookings should be marketing their property now.
"Most of the enquiries we get to SpainBuyingGuide.com are about purchasing a home on the Costa Blanca or Costa del Sol, with a large percentage of people keen to let their property for some extra income. However, I would advise anyone intending to let a home in Spain to check they have ticked all the right boxes with the local authorities before marketing their place, as the rules have tightened up in recent years."
