After what seems like a lifetime in production, the first teaser for Guy Ritchie’s ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’ has now finally arrived.
Following the successful first instalment of the director’s interpretation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s sleuth, the second adventure will hit cinemas in December and the first footage hints that Ritchie and Co have delivered another stylish and high octane escapade.
The tried and trusted double act of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law return once again as Holmes and Dr. John Watson, promising to continue mixing their comedic odd couple bickering with some seriously action based sleuthing.
Elsewhere we have Noomi Rapace in full gypsy attire and femme fatale mode whilst Jared Harris provides the first glimpse of Holmes’ famous arch nemesis, Professor James Moriarty.
Although very little is given away concerning the actual plot, Ritchie has apparently been influenced by the Arthur Conan Doyle short story The Final Problem (1893) whilst the main thrust of the film will revolve around the murder of the Crown Prince of Austria and Moriarty’s attempt to change the course of world history.
The sequel will also have a wider backdrop as events take the detective away from his beloved London to cover an investigation spanning several countries and what looks to be a war torn battlefield.
The film will also feature Stephen Fry (as Mycroft Holmes) and a returning cameo from Rachel McAdams as thief and former love interest Irene Adler.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is released on 16th December 2011.
