The first trailer for Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class has been released sending X-Men and Marvel fans into a frenzy.
X-Men first class follows the story of a young Professor X and Magneto who far from being enemies, are in fact close friends with a mission to protect mankind from self destruction. The film is set in the 1960s at height of the cold war tensions between America and Russia.
James McAvoy plays the young Charles Xavier who would later become Professor X with Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr the young Magneto and arch enemy to Professor X.
I doubt the film will disappoint X-Men fans seeing as it sheds some light on the friendship between Charles and Erik and the reasons for their parting of ways.
This is a popular narrative to follow which is why Smallville did so well with the protracted storyline between Lex Luthor and Clark Kent who would also become arch enemies.
The trailer is a CG fest with the obligatory poignant lines thrown in for good measure "listen to me very carefully my friend, Killing will not bring you peace" says Charles Xavier to Erik Lensherr (as a child Erik lived through the horrors of a Nazi concentration camp) to which Erik replies "Peace was never an option".
But all in all it looks rather damn good and will be taking the kids to see it if I can get them out of the pub that is.
